Growfood Growfood GOODS

If you've been to a Filipino get together, chances are you've seen a variety of dishes that you may or may not recognize. Here's a guide to the more famous Filipino dishes. Whether you're new to these goodies or someone who misses good 'ol Philippine cuisine, these are the Top 6 Filipino Food Favorites you simply must have:

1. Sisig - A unique dish from Pampanga made of pork cheeks, jowl, ears and, sometimes, liver. Seasoned with black pepper, red and white onions, chilies, calamansi or Philippine citrus and soy sauce. Mostly served on a sizzling plate, but there are those who just put it on a serving plate. Some folks top it with egg but a lot of Kapampangans frown upon the practice. Best eaten with rice.
Check out Verde Sisig:

2. Lumpia - Philippines' version of the egg roll/spring roll. The filling is either seasoned meat or vegetables. Can be served fried or fresh. Fried lumpia has a sweet chili sauce. Fresh lumpia has a brown garlic-peanut sauce.
Check out Bailon Food:
Unfortunately, these guys are not in social media but you can Google them to find out more.

3. Pancit - Stewed or Wok-Fried Noodles. Usually bathed in sauce and loaded with toppings: Meat, veggies, quail eggs and a whole lot more. There are different kinds of pancit like Palabok, Canton, Miki-Bihon, Malabon, Bam-I, but I featured Pancit Lucban from Quezon Province.
Check out Buddy's:

4. Lechon - Perfectly roasted pig. Usually seasoned with herbs, spices, salt and pepper. The meat is succulent and juicy. Very flavorful. The skin is crispy and has that wonderful crackle. It's usually served in big occassions, but today, more and more restaurants are serving smaller portions of lechon for everyday consumption.
Check out Rico's Lechon:

5. Adobo - Filipino Adobo is meat marinated and braised in vinegar and soy sauce, seasoned with black peppercorns, a bay leaf and lots of garlic. The meat is tender and has all the flavors it was marinated in. The most famous Filipino dish, Adobo has so many versions and everyone in the Philippines claim theirs is the best.
Check out Manam:

6. Halo-Halo - A merry mix of candied beans and fruits, topped with shaved ice, drenched in sweet milk and granished with ube, caramel flan and sometimes, ice cream. It's a perfect dessert for a delicious meal.
